Before paying
Check that the service is available to your account and accepts your chosen card. Universal and Universal+ differ in fees and issuing country; the merchant may apply its own restrictions.
Check the card balance allowing for fees, conversion and verification charges. Use Card Details for the number, expiry and CVV, and SafePay Billing for the holder name and address. Keep the service profile information accurate.
Complete checkout
- Choose a property and rate. Read cancellation terms, payment timing and whether Booking.com or the property collects payment.
- Check the final currency, taxes and any deposit. Use the guest’s details for the stay and SafePay details for card fields.
- Confirm the booking and any card check. Wait for a confirmation with the reservation number and verify the payment arrangements.
Optional Apple Pay or Google Pay at booking checkout
If Booking.com displays Apple Pay for the particular reservation, you can select Universal+ from Apple Wallet after checking the card balance and final amount. If Google Pay is displayed, you can select an eligible Universal or Universal+ already added to Google Wallet. These are online payment methods at Booking.com, not a guarantee that the property accepts the same method at reception.
Before confirming, identify who collects the payment: Booking.com or the accommodation. Read the payment date, cancellation rules, deposit and any pay-at-property condition. A hotel may require a physical card, a security deposit or a card in the guest’s name at check-in; a virtual card may be insufficient. Ask the property in advance rather than assuming that online confirmation settles every on-site requirement.
After confirmation
A preauthorization holds funds and can differ from the final charge. For an incorrect payment, contact the party that collected it. Before travel, ask the property whether a virtual card is sufficient and whether a physical card in the guest’s name is required.
If a 3D Secure request appears, complete the confirmation shown in SafePay, then return to the merchant. Do not pay again while the result is pending. For an error, keep its text, time and amount.
Do not rely on the card for restricted deposit transactions. Check booking and check-in requirements in advance.
