Why a free trial or introductory subscription offer may not start

Trial eligibility, billing channel, card verification and retries.

Updated

Before trying again

A free trial does not always mean the service accepts every card without checking it. The merchant decides whether an introductory offer is available to your account, country, billing channel and payment method. Some merchants verify a card or place a temporary authorization before starting a trial; the amount and policy vary by service.

  1. Check that the trial is really offered on the current checkout screen and that your account qualifies. A previous trial or existing subscription can affect eligibility.
  2. Confirm the selected country, account, plan and billing channel. An App Store trial and a website trial can have different terms.
  3. Check that your SafePay card is active, supports the specific merchant and has enough available funds for any verification or first charge shown by the merchant. A failed zero-value verification can still result in a decline.
  4. Verify the card number, expiration date, CVV and the Billing address displayed in SafePay. Do not invent personal or country information to obtain a trial.
  5. If a 3D Secure challenge appears, complete it once and then check the merchant’s subscription status before retrying.

Trial approved or card charged but nothing activated?

Check the service account, subscription screen, purchase receipt and the party that billed you. Do not create another subscription until you have established the result of the first attempt. If necessary, contact the merchant about trial eligibility and SafePay Support about the payment authorization.

These are general checks. They are not a statement that ChatGPT or another service offers a particular trial, or that SafePay can unlock an account-specific trial. Consult the actual offer on the service’s own checkout.
