How to set up a Google payments profile

Legal address, profile country and card billing are separate details.

Updated

Check your current profile

A card’s issuing country does not automatically become your residence or legal address. Google uses that information for verification and taxes. Payment-method eligibility depends on the product and profile.

  1. Sign in to payments.google.com with the Google account used for the purchase.
  2. Open Settings, select the relevant profile and check its country, legal address and payment methods.
  3. Add the card or update its billing using SafePay details. Your profile’s legal address must remain accurate.

If you genuinely change country

An existing payments profile’s country cannot simply be edited. For a move, travel or temporary residence, follow Google’s official process for a new profile; consider separate Google Play and existing subscription requirements. Do not create a fictitious profile just to attach a card.

Check which payments profile the purchase is using

In Google Payments, open Settings and review the selected profile’s country, legal name, legal address and payment methods. If your account has several valid profiles, make sure the intended product is using the appropriate one. When you add a card, enter the number, expiry and CVV from SafePay Card Details and the actual card billing information from Billing.

Google may require creating a new payments profile after a genuine country change; an existing profile’s country is not simply editable. A new profile is not an automatic solution to a rejected card. Use accurate information and follow Google’s actual country and residence requirements.

If Google Play shows a different country

Google Play’s store country is separate from the country of a Google payments profile. In Google Play, check Profile → Settings → General → Account and device preferences → Country and profiles for account-specific options. Country updates may be delayed or restricted; creating a payments profile alone does not necessarily update Play. Avoid repeated profile creation with fictional details.
